The SmartWoman Project, implemented by HapaSpace under the DigiWorks initiative with support from GIZ, was designed to empower women entrepreneurs in the agriculture and fashion sectors through digital skills training. A total of 162 women were trained in Adjamesu, a town in the Ashanti Region, to better understand and use digital tools that support business growth, efficiency, and innovation.
The project aimed to bridge the digital divide for women-led businesses by introducing participants to basic digital literacy, smartphone use, and mobile applications relevant to their sectors. The training helped the women improve their confidence in using technology and provided tools that made their everyday operations easier and more effective.
In the agriculture component, women were supported to use digital devices to simplify their work and improve their businesses. They were trained on how to use mobile phones for tasks such as record-keeping, sales tracking, communication, and information access, helping them make better decisions and connect to markets more efficiently.
In the fashion component, the project introduced participants to the Fashion Pal App, a mobile tool designed to support fashion designers and tailors with accurate client measurements, order tracking, and workflow management. This allowed the women to improve the quality and speed of their service, reduce manual errors, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Each participant benefited from hands-on guidance and mentorship to ensure they could confidently integrate digital tools into their businesses. HapaSpace’s role was central in providing training delivery, mentorship, and continued support during and after the sessions.
