Press Release – July 2025

The UNIHUBS project has released a new Needs Analysis Report that takes a close look at the skills and capacity gaps facing universities and digital innovation hubs across Africa.

The three-year Erasmus+ project (2024–2027), coordinated by Erasmus University Rotterdam, brings together partners from Africa and Europe to help universities better prepare students for today’s digital labour market.

Drawing on desk research, best-practice reviews, and 41 interviews with university staff and innovation hub managers, the report highlights five key areas where support is most needed. These include digital teaching skills, entrepreneurship education, technical digital skills, human skills such as communication and teamwork, and stronger collaboration with industry. Many of these challenges are especially visible in rural institutions.

The findings will shape the next phase of UNIHUBS. Partners, including Hapa Space, will work on developing practical, flexible training materials that can be tested and adapted to local contexts.

The Needs Analysis Report will continue to evolve as the project progresses, helping UNIHUBS stay closely aligned with the real needs of African higher education and innovation ecosystems.
